RIPFESTCo-Executive Producer

Writer and Producer Bruce Kennedy specializes in storytelling for television and film, blurring the lines between real-life drama and scripted entertainment. A magna-cum-laude graduate of Princeton University with an MA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Kennedy has made a career out of transforming high concepts into entertaining stories, and working with top talent to produce focused and riveting film and television.

Most recently, Bruce has been working on a 1-hour special featuring the girls of America’s Next Top Model for UPN. He just finished writing for The Apprentice Season 2 Live Finale, working with Regis Philbin and Donald Trump. Bruce co-produced alongside Exec. Prod. Jerry Rafshoon (Running Mates) and acclaimed presidential historian Michael Beschloss to create Decisions That Shook the World, a series of unique historical investigations into presidential decision-making for the Discovery Channel, featuring the voice of Morgan Freeman and interviews with White House insiders such as Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Sam Nunn, Walter Cronkite, Jack Valenti and others.

Kennedy also produced the award-winning 9/11 film 7 Days in September, a theatrically-released documentary that traces the events of that day and the ensuing week through the eyes of 28 filmmakers who captured it, including Kennedy himself. The film can currently be seen on A&E and is available at amazon.com.

As a writer and story-editor Kennedy’s work is eclectic: from the NYC-based reality series Dog Days on Animal Planet, to the frighteningly-real Stage Moms on VH-1, to MSNBC’s deadly serious investigation of the neo-patriot movement The .50-Caliber Militia. He’s written not only for acclaimed filmmakers Peter Gilbert, Barbara Kopple and Nannette Burstein, but also for some not-so-acclaimed luminaries such as Anna Kournikova.

Kennedy is also one of the creators and executive producers of RIPFest, a short-filmmaking event in New York and Los Angeles in which six teams of filmmakers are given a central theme, pre-approved locations and a cast and instructed to create a DV short film over 16 days. Kennedy has executive-produced over 25 short films with RIPFest since its inception in 2001, several of them going on to festivals.
