Artist Bios

Beth Blatt, lyricist/librettist has won 2econd Stage Theatre's Klinsky Award for Excellence in Music Theatre (2001) and a 2000 Larson grant (both with composer Jenny Giering) for shows including The Mistress Cycle, workshopped at the Williamstown Theatre Festival this past summer, and Island of the Blue Dolphin, currently on a sold-out national tour for TheatreWorks USA.

Kate Chisholm is a director, writer, performer and designer. She has directed original works at The Culture Project (Newton's Universe, which she also wrote and designed), Baltimore Theatre Project (Heartfield, a musical by Kenneth Allan Vega), Columbia University, the Yale British Art Center, Alice's 4th Floor, and Towson University. Kate wrote the book for The Hidden Sky (music and lyrics by Peter Foley), which won a Richard Rodgers Award, premiered at Prince Music Theater and was nominated for six Barrymore Awards. She is an alum of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab.

Jessica Clark holds an MFA in dramatic writing from New York University where she was awarded the John Golden Playwrighting Prize. Her plays have been seen in little tiny theatres in New Mexico and New York. Her husband is allergic to chicken.

Nancy D'Addario a recent graduate of NYU CAP21 Music Theater Program. Nancy performs her own stand up all over the city as well as teaching for D.A.R.E Dance Program. Favorite roles include Hildy in On The Town and Fastrada in Pippin with the Venus Rising Company.

Joel Derfner is an alumnus of NYU's Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program. He hopes to come to a bad end.

Yanik Fernandez, a recent graduate of Northwestern University, is proud to be working with Raw Impressions, Inc. She has recently worked as assistant artistic director for the Ionesco Festival and as stage manager for Rhinoceros (Untitled Theatre Co. #61); I Love America (American Place Theatre), and assistant to the director of new adaptation of House on Mango Street (American Place Theatre).

Aaron Forbes has been recently seen as Philip in Lyle Kesler's "Orphans" and Mozart in "Amadeus." Other credits include: "Sweeney Todd", "Evita", "Salome", by Oscar Wilde, "Into the Woods," and as Benvolio in "Romeo and Juliet." Trained at Boston Conservatory. Much love to family and friends!

Micah Freedman is excited to be working with Raw Impressions. Recent NYC productions include A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Ghosts. Regional credits include Fiddler, The Music Man, The Fantasticks and La Bohème. Micah graduated from Stanford University where he studied Music, Acting, and Computer Science.

Jenny Giering, composer. 2001 Klinsky Prize (2econd Stage Co.), 2000 Larson Award, 2000 Loewe Award, 2000 Rodgers Award Finalist. Currently at work on The Mistress Cycle (with Beth Blatt) - workshopped at Williamstown Theater Fest. last season, off to Theaterworks in Palo Alto this May and Barrington Stage Co. this summer.

Justin Greer. Broadway: Seussical the Musical, Annie Get Your Gun. Other stuff: Babes in Arms at City Center Encores! and loads of workshops and readings. He's also done many a job that gets put into the "You did WHAT for money?" file.

David Javerbaum won an Emmy and a Peabody for his work as a writer for "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." He is the co-author of the Off-Broadway musical Suburb, which won numerous awards last year. His hobbies include bragging.

Kendrick Knight's most recent credits include; Ain't Misbehavin, Damn Yankees, La Cage, Ginger (Workshop), West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, Noon, Edmond,"The Dr. Brevtskey Project". He has also performed on Carnivale Cruise Lines. Performances with Mill-James Productions and GelsCo. Productions.

Kris Kukul is a graduate of NYU/Tisch. Currently he works as musical director/arranger for ElizabethSwados, projects have included "Bible women" at theBeack Center in LA, "The Gift" at the Bottom Line,"The Journey to Benares" at MTC as well as "TheViolence Project", "Judith", and "Women of Valor".Also in NYC, he musical directed The Civilians in"Canard, Canard, Goose" at HERE, and works frequentlyat Playwrights Horizons Theatre School.

David Lefkowich, a recent graduate of Northwestern University, is proud to be working with RIMT. He has performed with regional theatre companies such as NYS Theatre Institute in the new musical "The Snow Queen" as well as "Brigadoon" with Park Playhouse of Albany, NY.

Allison Leyton-Brown has composed music for theatre, dance, and opera in New York, Montréal, and Toronto. Most recently, Allison wrote and conducted music for an East-Indian-flavored production of The Bacchae, and Urban Tattoo, a one-woman show for Montréal’s Festivale de Théatre des Ameriques. Her cabaret-opera, Aquarium, received an in-house reading at Playwright’s Workshop Montréal last winter. Most recently, Allison completed a score for the Grimm Brothers’ The Seven Ravens, which ended its tour at Canada’s National Art Centre this winter. Allison lives in New York City where she studies at Tisch School of the Arts’ Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program.

Ljova Composer and violist LEV ZHURBIN was born in Moscow, Russia, and has been living in New York for thirteen years. He is a graduate of the Juilliard School and is involved in many diverse projects. Visit his website, http://Ljova.com

Ellen Maddow is a founding member of the TALKING BAND and has composed for most of its works- most recently STAR MESSENGERS, which was presented at La Mama in December of 2001 and which received the Frederick Loewe Award in Musical Theatre.

Cheri Magid's work has been seen at South Coast Rep, Rattlestick, MYE Productions, La MaMa, The West Bank Cafe, and on National Public Radio. Hot Yoga has been optioned by Susan Gallin, producer of The Vagina Monologues.

Douglas Maxwell received his bachelor's degree in composition from the University of Florida, and currently works in children's publishing while moonlighting as a pianist for hire. He most enjoys performing new classical and musical theatre works and collaborating with other composers and musicians.

Patrick Mellen was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. His professional credits include appearances at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville and Lincoln Center. He gives great thanks to all who made and continue to make RIMT possible.

Jonathan Newman has written orchestral, chamber, vocal, choral, band, and collaborative dance music. This is his first musical-theater work. He attended Boston University and The Juilliard School, and is a 2001 recipient of the Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Kirsten Poznanski is a graduating senior at New York University's TISCH School of the arts. This is her stage managing debut. She would like to thank David, Yanik, Patrick, and David for this opportunity. Thank you too to the thirty very talented artists in RIMT for being such a pleasure to work with.

David Rodwin recently completed composing TheSound of Waves: A Prayer Cycle (Donna DiNovelli, librettist) which was performed at Mabou Mines, March 20 &21. On a totally different subject, despite the warmth and comfort given to him by his leather pants, David still needs a massage.

Judith Sainte Croix writes opera, chamber, orchestral and electronic music. She is presently completing an evening length opera about the rainforest funded by the Jerome Foundation. Her CD release "Visions of Light and Mystery" is commercially available in music stores and at judithsaintecroix.com.

Michael Scheman (Book/Lyrics) adapted and directed "The Pirates of Penzance" at the South St. Seaport last summer. His play, "Running from the Rhyme" won the 2000 John Golden prize and has been workshopped in theatres off Broadway, Chicago, Houston, and NJ. RIMT debut.

Sabrina Scherff graduated from NU in 2001 with a degree in theatre and music theatre,In November she performed in the staged reading of the revised 1979 Broadway show "Starmites," at the John Houseman Theatre. Sabrina's Northwestern credits include: performing in the premiere a cappella group "Melodious Thunk," as Rizzo in Grease, and Eve/Mama Noah in Children of Eden. Daniel Shamir - Dan's musical theatre work includes the Off-Broadway musical "Many A Good Hanging Prevents a Bad Marriage" at the Manhattan Playhouse and "What A Piece of Work is Dan!" Most recently Dan composed music for "Angel In Between" which premiered in New York last November at the American Theatre of Actors and in San Diego at the Fritz Theatre.

Amy Silverman is new to NYC from Minneapolis. Alum of Eugene O'Neill Cabaret Symposium and Northwestern University. National Tours- 2. Original Cast Recording- Nuncrackers. Regional- Ordway Theatre, Nautilus M.T., Minnesota Children's Theatre, Brave New Workshop. Improv, Teaching and Cabaret Experience. "Life is love."

Perry Souchuk has had several plays produced in New York City including The Language of Rapture, Nervous Splendor -- The World of Ludwig Wittgenstein, and Marrow. His latest play, Happiness Island, is in development. His play The Pleasure of Detachment can be found in the anthology Plays In One Act. He is a recipient of a Playwriting Grant from the Edward Albee Foundation. Before working in theater Perry danced in several companies including Laura Dean Musicians and Dancers and Anna Sokolow. Perry is currently participating in Betty Buckley’s Intensive Acting Workshop to prove to himself and anyone else who’s interested that he is not an actor.

Alexandra Tolk Performances and Readings in NY include: Rattlestick, The New Group, Soho Rep, The Women's Project & Productions, EST, MTC, DTW, The Ontological Theater. Alex has been a playwright at the O'Neill, a fellow at Juilliard, and a Writer-in-Residence at New York Stage & Film.

Daniella Topol's recent directing credits include: LIVES (an intergenerational theatre piece with the Actors Fund Home at the U.N.), and LILA (a new play at Mill Mountain Theatre in VA). Daniella is the New Works Program Director at the National Alliance for Musical Theatre. Member: E.A.T., Assembly, NYU's Directing Company. Alumni: Carnegie Mellon Directing. NYTW Usual Suspect.

Matthew Trombetta, a recent graduate of Northwestern University coming to terms with his recent vow of poverty, he has been seen cavorting with the GOP, catering here and there, and as "Nate the Elf" in the holiday tour of "The Elves and the Shoemaker". Recent credits include a stint as Cadet #147 in the Met's production of "War and Peace.” His passion is new musical theatre and he would like to thank RIMT for this unique and gratifying experience.

Mark Weiser is a classically trained composer with numerous film scores and recording projects. His songs can he heard by such artists as David Sabella, Rob Evan and Danny Zolli. Music Theatre projects are "Ivanhoe", a musical adaption of the Walter Scott adventure novel; "The Cure", a rock opera, which was a finalist for both the Jonathan Larson Award and the Michael Stewart Award and "feeding the Machine", a quirky, little one act. Next is an April reading of "Time Machine 2.0" a modern version H.G.Wells' classic at the 14th St. Y Theatre.
